The Law of Attraction Brought Me My Home, My New Career, My Husband
I was using the Law of Attraction (LOA) before I even knew it had a name. I was living just outside Philadelphia, running my petsitting business. I loved the animals, but I knew I should be making my living as a writer. I had published a few pieces with some local magazines. So on New Year’s Eve, 2005, I decided to walk away from my petsitting business, pack up my two dogs, and move to Santa Fe, New Mexico, where I felt I was being called. My experience with the Law of Attraction began at that moment. I simply decided, I am going to move to Santa Fe, meet a man (preferably a veterinarian!), and make my living as a writer. In my mind, this was a done deal.
I knew no one in Santa Fe. Four days later, I arrived. Within two weeks, I had an apartment and a well-paying writing job with Christie’s International Real Estate. A few years later, I met a man and married him. He is a veterinarian.
I Didn’t Know I Was Invoking the Law of Attraction
At the time I did not label my determined thinking as the “Law of Attraction.” I just prayed and held on to the feeling in my spirit that said I belong in Santa Fe and that this is the right move for me. I now know that was Source, God, the Universe, etc. gently nudging me in the direction that would serve my highest good. It would take many years before I would realize all of this. It would take years of studying with many teachers, including Deepak Chopra, davidji, and Dr. Wayne Dyer; reading ancient texts, such the Bhagavad Gita, the Upanishads, the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, Shankara’s Crest-Jewel of Discrimination, the Bible, and the Tao te Ching; years of meditating a great deal; and taking courses in the Law of Attraction and finally becoming a certified LOA Master Practitioner.
My goal is to distill all I’ve learned so that you can benefit from my experience with the Law of Attraction and apply it to your own life. One thing I can tell you is this:
I have manifested everything I have ever wanted through the Law of Attraction . . . if it was for my highest good. If it wasn’t, the Universe delivered something even better.
The Law of Attraction Brought Me My Dream Job
I was working as a writer and editor at this point, and my dream job at this time was to be a book reviewer. I had done two book reviews for Bookmarks Magazine, but that was my only experience. The highest aspiration for a book reviewer is to work for Kirkus—the most prestigious and influential of all book review companies. I wanted this job more than I ever wanted anything. Without yet knowing that I was employing the Law of Attraction, I envisioned getting it, I allowed myself to feel what it would be like to be accepted into the nearly uncrackable Kirkus circle, and I focused all my energy on getting this job.
It was my birthday, September 7, 2011 when I received an email from Kirkus Media offering me the position of book reviewer. I kept that job for three years, and it has been one of the highlights of my career. (I now focus on the wellness sector.)
The Law of Attraction Led Me to My Husband, Mark
While I was living in New Mexico, a previous petsitting client from the Philadelphia area contacted me and said, “I just found out that a friend of mine from my days at MIT switched careers and went to vet school, and he moved to Albuquerque to do an internship. He’s a really great guy. Do you have any interest in meeting him?”* Truth be told, I had already met a man and had recently got engaged . . . but something inside me told me this wasn’t right. So I told her I’d be happy to meet up with him if he’s looking to make new friends, but that’s it. So I met up with him and began noticing that I was enjoying his company more than my fiancé’s. Long story short: I ended up breaking my engagement and marrying the veterinarian. That petsitting client flew to Santa Fe to attend our wedding.
*The full story of how this petsitting client happened to get back in touch with Mark is so outrageous and complex that it could only have been the Universe at work.
The Law of Attraction boils down to this: Just like there are physical laws, such as the law of gravity, there is a more subtle law that says your mind has the power to create. You just need to trust it. If you can imagine, feel, and believe in something, you can manifest it. I promise.
Update: Over the last year (2021) I have been focusing my editorial career a bit more on writing, which has taken a back seat to my editing work. I have been applying the Law of Attraction to get published in key magazines. Just in the last couple of months, I sold articles to two out of three target publications.
The Law of Attraction works.
